On my way to a new Me

So this is the first post on this blog, and like so many firsts, I don't really know where to start.  It probably doesn't matter because I doubt anyone is reading my blog this early on, but you've gotta start somewhere!

As a quick introduction, I'm Becca (or Bec, Becky, Rebecca...) and I'm currently on a journey to a new life.  I'm changing myself from the inside out and getting a healthier mind and body through healthy eating and exercise.  This blog is just my way to express all the many and varied thoughts I have throughout this process (without driving my family and friends crazy).  It's also a way for me to track my progress and keep myself accountable as I face daily challenges.  Once this post is done, my next goal is to write an 'About Me' blurb, and once that's done I'll link to it HERE in case you want to know anything else about me.

I started this journey about Seven weeks ago when three rather significant things happened.  The first was that I decided to sign up for Weight Watchers with my mum. I'd had some success with WW in the past and decided that it was a good way to start over.  Around the same time (maybe a day or two later) a friend of mine posted on Facebook that she was going to sign up for the Disney Princess 5k in Florida in February.  I'm obsessed with Disney (I even worked at Disney World for a year!) and have wanted to do a RunDisney race for a while now.  I wasn't exactly sure how I was going to afford the trip as I was unemployed at the time, but on a burst of optimistic spontaneity, I registered for the run and paid the $100+ registration fee.  Inspired and excited at the prospect, I sat myself down one night and spent 3 hours researching and  creating my own 22 week running plan with the goal of being able to "go for a run" by Christmas 2016.

The third thing that happened was about a week later, when I was offered a new job.  Suddenly, the trip to Florida and the race were a very real possibility - not just a vague dream.  I pulled up a trusty spreadsheet (Oh how I love spreadsheets) and made myself a strict budget, determined to achieve my goal of running the 5k in 45 minutes or less.

Since then, I have pushed myself to exercise 5-7 days a week, eat healthy whilst using the Weight Watchers program to track my progress.  And that is where I am now, nearly 2 months into this journey and still motivated, but knowing that the majority of the mountain still looms ahead.  I hope that if you read this blog that you can get something out of it too - that my struggles might teach you something or help to motivate you.

So here we go - I'm ready to begin this scary but exciting journey!

Later, Losers!
